Rabbit Confronts her Rodent Self

A Collaborative Work by Jill Johnson and Jennifer Goya

Projection on Canvas, 24x40", 2011.

This “digital painting” engages the viewer deeply in the concept of mixed-media, namely addressing the increasing divide between digital and “traditional” material. The piece creates an eerie space and time in which the video and painting exist concurrently. The video, projected onto the canvas, is contained within an antique frame, further bringing attention to the interplay of typically unpaired media.

The Rabbit, dressed in a proper kimono, visualizes herself running/dancing among the forest. Disturbed by these visions, she reaches out for help, but to no avail. She is left to contemplate and confront her rodent self on her own, the artist’s autobiographical commentary on how she tends to “overly separate the mind and body.”
